    Making Scrapbook Page Kits: Background and Page Sketches

    Making scrapbook page kits is such a good technique to improve your scrapping productivity.  Mine have evolved, and as I learn, I’m passing it along for others to use. Let’s backup just one step and fill you in on where my need for scrapping efficiency came from.  My scrapbook goals for 2019 were, um, ambitious. I started out strong, but kept finding additional photos after I thought I had completed an album. It was certainly a learning experience and a situation I wouldn’t have necessarily wanted, but a lesson nonetheless.   My parents were downsizing and my mom had tons of photos.  Some boxes and envelopes of photos I inherited…

    Polka Dot Baby Blanket {crochet pattern}

    Today’s project is a crocheted polka dot baby blanket, and instead of making the polka dots with a crochet stitch we are using pom-pom yarn to do the work for us.  We will carry along a strand of pom-pom yarn as we crochet. Do you ever get in the mood to step out of your comfort zone?  You’re ready to try something new. Something that is not one of the many stitches you’ve used countless times before? That is how this blanket was birthed, and I mentioned it a few months ago when I wrote about “all the things” I was working on. You can read about all those things…

    Thread Spool Pumpkin

    If you have been following along recently, you’ll see I’ve been on a pumpkin kick lately.  I’ll link to those projects later in the article. Today’s project is a thread spool pumpkin. There were a few different ways I considered going about this project, namely with how I wanted to decorate the spools. I debated about wrapping them in fabric or paper, and also considered painting them. The idea of using plastic spools also occurred to me but I found a treasure trove of wood ones in my craft room so went with those. You could build thread spool pumpkins in a couple of different ways. First, is by turning…

    Toilet Paper Roll Pumpkin

    Are you in the mood to make an inexpensive fall pumpkin craft?  What better project than a toilet paper roll pumpkin? Today’s project uses toilet paper rolls, yes, toilet paper rolls to create a wrought-iron-look pumpkin.  Any kind of roll will work – toilet paper rolls, paper towel rolls, even some wrapping paper rolls. The consistency of the roll just needs to be fairly thin like a toilet paper roll.  If it’s too thick it won’t curl properly, nor lay properly in the design. Supplies Toilet paper rolls – quantity is dependent on the finished size of your project, the width the rolls are cut, and how many times you,…

    Make a Pumpkin Using Old Keys

    Do you have some old keys lying around that you no longer use, or for that matter, even know what they go to? Today’s project will make a pumpkin using old keys to spruce up your fall décor. Fall is in the air. I’ve already busted out my sweatshirts and have sat by our chimnea on our patio several nights enjoying the crackling wood, dark night sky, and coolness in the air. Ahhh, fall…. Today’s fall project is inspired by my junk drawer. Any number of items could work for this project, but I chose keys. Pumpkin Supplies First, determine the size you would like for your pumpkin.  I originally…

    How to add pictures into an existing scrapbook

    Do you have a finished scrapbook album, but found more pictures that belong in that album? Today we’re talking about how to add pictures into an existing scrapbook. I fell behind on my scrapbooks. I essentially took off most of June, all of July, all of August, and most of September. So much for my goal of completing one scrapbook per month, eh? I got caught up in summer activities and wanted to enjoy the daytrips, boating, beachgoing, hiking, kayaking, going out with friends, spending time with family, and biking. If you’ve been following along, you know that I finished each of my brother’s albums in April and May. I…

    Sea Turtle Blanket {crochet}

    A crochet sea turtle blanket is a great inspiration project to work on during the summer, crocheting up the beach, the waves, the ocean, and the sea turtles. It’s like you can just feel the sun on your face and the ocean breeze in your hair, yet you’re sitting in your comfy chair, with or without a margarita. I was inspired by similar blankets I saw on Pinterest and decided to make up one of them. For this blanket, I used a crocheted ripple pattern. If you have a ripple pattern you like or have used, go ahead and use it. There are all types of ripple patterns too —…

    Crochet Blanket: Lemon Peel Stitch and Variegated Yarn

    Pretty routinely I get the itch to crochet a blanket. In this case, it was for a crochet blanket with variegated yarn. But whether it is a set of colors that inspire me or a new stitch, or even an old stitch I really like, at least a few times a year, I’m working on a crochet blanket.  And if I’m being completely honest, sometimes I’m working on multiple blankets, because again, I have varied inspirations.  Working on a blanket gives me a sense of accomplishment. Even if I’m using a stitch I’ve used a hundred times (as was the case on this blanket) there’s a sense of moving towards…
