New Project Spotlight: Linen Stitch Crochet Blanket
Today’s New Project Spotlight is shining the light on the Linen Stitch crochet blanket. This stitch is also known as the Moss Stitch, also known as the Granite Stitch. Do you ever wonder why stitches have multiple names, or is it kind of like us humans when we have nicknames? Any way, the linen stitch is a super simple stitch.
I made this blanket using variegated yarns and boy, what fun it was!
What you’ll need (or what I used) for the Linen Stitch Crochet Blanket
- 8 skeins of variegated yarn (I used a variety of brands and a variety of started skeins. As one skein ran out, I’d just skip it in the rotation). These were all 4-weight yarns, the fullest skein was 251 yards/skein but again they weren’t all full skeins, 100% acrylic)
- Purple/red/yellow (I didn’t keep the label and there was only half left)
- I Love This Yarn Green Cam Ombre
- I Love This Yarn Hideaway
- Red Heart Super Saver Primary
- Red Heart Super Saver Cherry Cola
- I Love This Yarn Riverbank
- Red Heart Super Saver Holly & Ivy
- I Love This Yarn Blue Camo Stripe
- US-J Hook
- Yarn needle
- Scissors
- This Linen Stitch crochet pattern from Look At What I Made
And this video tutorial from Tinna Thorudottir Thorvaldar for the twisted fringe
Finished Dimensions: 55.5″ long x 37″ wide
For this version, you change yarn after EACH row. So I left tails 6-8″ long on each end to come back later and do the twisted fringe. I also used the same rotation of yarn for my rows, but once a color ran out, I just skipped it in the rotation.
Additional Notes
Speaking of single crochets, did you know that surface-area-wise, single crochet stitches use the most yarn when compared to many other stitches like the double crochet, half double crochet, and treble crochet? Remember, that’s a surface area measurement. Check out this article by Naztazia where she demonstrates making a series of same sized swatches, each in a different stitch, and then measuring the amount of yarn used. Interesting!
Final Thoughts on the Crochet Linen Stitch Blanket
This is definitely a blanket to work after you’ve finished a crazy complicated one that has you glued to the instruction sheet, eyes going crossed, or one where you just need to relax or chat while you’re crocheting. If you can make single crochets and chains, you’re good to go on this one. Thank you to Dedri over at Look At What I Made for sharing the Linen Stitch crochet pattern, and to Tinna for the twisted fringe!
