New Project Spotlight: Fall Boho Crochet Poncho
In today’s New Project Spotlight we’re shining the light on the Fall Boho Crochet Poncho by Anno Crochet Designs.
There I was scrolling down the Facebook rabbit hole when I came upon a picture someone had posted of a gorgeous poncho. Does anyone else get that magical sensation in their body of excitement when something so pleasing is in front of you?
Digging into the comments, I learned that the poncho was the Fall Boho Crochet Poncho by Annoo Crochet Designs. There was both a video link (which I did not use so cannot comment on) and a written pattern that was translated from the YouTube video by Michaela Greaves, which is what I used.
What You’ll Need (or what I used) for the Fall Boho Crochet Poncho
- 4 skeins Red Heart Unforgettable yarn (270 yards/skein, 100% acrylic, 4-weight) in the colorway Polo
- US-I hook
- Scissors
- Yarn Needle
- Fall Boho Crochet Poncho pattern from Annoo Crochet Designs
The pattern called for a yarn I was not familiar with: Rico’s Creative Melange which was a DK/light worsted weight yarn). It also had wool in it.
I rummaged through my curated stash and discovered Red Heart Unforgettable in the colorway Polo. It’s a beautiful array of olive greens, pumpkin oranges, earthy purple, and merlot red. It’s a beautiful combination of autumn colors, like the colors of the leaves, just in yarn form. I used almost every bit of 4 skeins. It took less than 1 skein per square, and the leftover yarn was used to assemble and trim in the neck opening.
My additional pattern notes for the Fall Boho Crochet Poncho
The pattern called to make 4 squares with an embedded flower petal design at the corners. I made the 18 rounds suggested in the pattern.
Construction
The layout of the 4 pieces seems very simple, but boy did I get myself turned around and backwards!!! I started connecting the pieces multiple times, thinking THIS time I got it right only to look at it and realize I hadn’t. I’m not even sure what threw me off, so I pulled out the pictures from the written pattern and poured over them for a good 20 minutes trying to force the logic of its construction into my brain. Finally, it clicked.
Seaming
One thing I did do differently from the pattern was when I stitched the squares together, my bump of the seam is on the outside of the squares. Why? Because at the time, I thought that would look neat. In hindsight it kind of looks like I have the poncho on inside out. So don’t do what I did. Follow the pattern to keep the seam bumps on the inside. You’ll thank me later.
Neck Opening
I had concerns over the head opening being too big for me too. I don’t usually care for v-neck styles and was worried the v-neck style of this would droop too far down my front side. Understand, I knew I would wear something underneath it, but I just didn’t want the v-neck going down to my belly button….not saying it would have, but you know what I mean.
After it was assembled, I followed the instructions to close in some of the opening. Since I had yarn leftover, and wanted to just use it all up, I continued closing in the opening by working 6 rows instead of the 2 rows that were suggested in the pattern.
My finished dimensions were 48″ across at the longest point across the bottom; 16.5″ from neck to waist. And my neck opening was 13.5″ in diameter (opening from shoulder to shoulder).
Final Thoughts on the Fall Boho Crochet Poncho
This is a very easy pattern. It was easy to work on while watching TV, in the car, or really anywhere. Double crochets, single crochets, half double crochets, as well as some single crochet 2 together (sc2tog) and half double crochet 2 together (hdc2tog). And that’s it! Your fall boho poncho is born! Thank you to Annoo Crochet Designs for sharing the Fall Boho Crochet Poncho pattern.
