New Project Spotlight: Dreamsicle Tee {crochet}
Today’s New Project Spotlight series shines the light on The Dreamsicle Tee, by Sigoni Macaroni. This is such a cute little top.
I don’t make a lot of clothing items. I’m more of a scarf, cowl, poncho kind of girl when it comes to crocheted clothing items. Sometimes I just can’t find the right pattern. And then I get frustrated if it doesn’t turn out or doesn’t fit quite right. So much for wearing it right? All that excitement…gone. But I digress.
What You’ll Need (or what I used for the Dreamsicle Tee)
Her pattern covers all of the supplies and hooks and dimensions and other goodness and the link to her pattern is below. I’ll just tell you what I used as another perspective.
- 5 skeins I Love This Cotton yarn (153 yards/skein; 4-weight) in the colorway Shave Ice
- 1 skein I Love This Cotton yarn (180 yards/skein; 4-weight) in the colorway Aqua
- US-I Hook
- yarn needle
- scissors
- measuring tape

Sizing Comments about Dreamsicle Tee
The Dreamsicle Tee is a well written pattern and works up into such a cute top. I actually made TWO of them I liked it so much!! Be sure to pay attention to the sizing dimensions and measurements. The author did a really good job of providing them, and they really do help guide the sizing.
I ended up making an XS when it came to the stitch counts because the measurements of my gauge came out to a small. That was all in my gauge which you could.would.should do a gauge swatch first, but I just never got into those. I understand doing them, I just get too excited to start a project. Maybe I should try one and more of my clothing items might work out better. 🙂
Yarn Chicken, anyone?
The first Dreamsicle Tee I made using Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Cotton in the colorways Aqua and Shave Ice. (yes it’s Shave Ice, not ShaveD Ice). I had the Shave Ice for years and had planned on just using it for the top figuring I would have some other cotton I could use if I started to run low.
Unfortunately for the Shave Ice yarn that didn’t end up being the case, and because this project was turning out so well I refused to take a shortcut……I broke down and bought the Aqua, and I’m so glad I did. It looks awesome with the Shave Ice.
I used 2.5 skeins of the Shave ice for EACH side, so a total of about 5 skeins. A few of my skeins were already started so I’m guessing a bit. To be safe, plan for 3 skeins per side if you follow the XS stitch counts like I did. The aqua was enough for both sides.
Joining Technique
In addition to learning the construction of a top (a cute one too!) I also learned a new joining technique called the Mattress Stitch. It’s an amazing little stitch for joining. Sigoni Macaroni shares how to do this too. It ends up being mostly invisible, which was just so intriguing to me. It’s the little things right?
The pattern is full of double crochets and single crochets. The sleeves used a reverse single crochet, also known as the crab stitch. The first time I ever worked the crab stitch I felt like I had never crocheted in my life, all thumbs. It felt foreign but it’s another stitch well worth adding to your stitch arsenal.
Final Thoughts on the Crochet Dreamsicle Tee
This really was a simple pattern! Well written. Easy to follow. And it makes the cutest tee! I would highly recommend it! That coming from a girl who doesn’t make much in the crocheted clothing arena. Thank you to Sigoni Macaroni for sharing the pattern!
