New Project Spotlight: Crochet Waffle Stitch Blanket
Today’s New Project Spotlight is shining the light on the Waffle Stitch. There are plenty of written instructions and video tutorials out there for this stitch. I found this video pattern referenced on CrochetBeja’s website, with a link to Sirin’s Crochet video tutorial on YouTube and used the video.
The waffle stitch is a bit of a yarn eater which is how it produces its cushy, almost spongy, thickness.
What You’ll Need (or what I used) for the Waffle Stitch Crochet Blanket
- 4 skeins of Lion Brand Mandala Baby yarn (590 yards/skein; 100% acrylic; 3-weight) in the colorway HoneyDukes (I did do a border. I went borderless and therefore my yarn supply above reflects that)
- US-G (4.0mm) Hook
- Yarn needle
- Scissors
- Waffle Stitch crochet blanket video pattern. I found the video pattern at CrochetBeja and it appears the video instruction is credited to Sirin’s Crochet on YouTube
My Finished Dimensions: 48”L x 27”W.
Once you get the hang of the pattern (and you will after several rows) it’s a good one to work while watching TV or in car.
The Mandala yarn calls for an H-hook, but I found I needed to go down a hook size to a G-hook. I’ve mentioned before how I tend to ‘waffle” (see what I did there?! LOL) between an H or a G with these yarns. For this one, a G won out.
You probably know me by now that I just let the self-striping Mandala yarn do it’s thing. And for those of you who have been with me for a while, let’s all repeat with me: “because its fewer ends to tuck in”. LOL
Seriously, that is the reason why. I am NOT a fan of tucking ends.
Final Thoughts on the Waffle Stitch Crochet Blanket
If you would like an easy blanket perfect for a baby shower, a waffle stitch blanket is the one. I could see working it up in any number of Mandala yarns. Oh, the possibilities! Thank you to CrochetBeja and Sirin’s Crochet for sharing the Waffle Stitch crochet video pattern.
