New Project Spotlight: Crochet Trio Blanket

Today’s New Project Spotlight series shines the light on the crochet Trio blanket by Susan Carlson over at Felted Button.

This pattern was intriguing to me. I wasn’t quite sure how to pick my yarns but like anything else, you usually just need to try something. So I did. I mixed three Lion Brand Mandala yarns in what I hoped would be complementary colors: Harpy, Liger, and Cupid.

The pattern itself is fairly easy and once you get the hang of the repeats, it’s a no-need-to-watch-the-pattern type of pattern.

What You’ll Need (or what I used) for the Crochet Trio Blanket

  • 3 skeins Lion Brand Mandala (590 yards/skein; 3-weight; 100% acrylic); one skein in each of the following colorways: Harpy, Liger, and Cupid
  • US-G Hook
  • Yarn needle
  • Scissors
  • Trio Blanket pattern by Susan Carlson at Felted Button

My finished dimensions: 40″L x 35″W

I started with 166 chains.

The way I worked this pattern was to carry my yarns at the end of each row. So I would drop the current color and pick up the new color. For those of you who follow me, y’all KNOW why don’t you? Because I don’t like tucking ends!!!

If you’re like me in that regard, you could do the same. And if you don’t care for the carrying “look” up the side, then you could do a border. I did not and took a chance at just keeping the “carry” visible. Again, you’re just carrying up the side….not across the entire row.

Since you’re working 3 (ie. The “Trio”) yarns, one at a time, you always have a new one to pick up at the end of any given row. Pretty convenient, eh?

I would make this blanket again. And when I do I would plan on using more contrasting colors. I was fine with how this one turned out, but I’m intrigued by the use of completely contrasting colors and how that might look.

Final Thoughts on the crochet Trio blanket

If you have a few single skeins of self-striping yarn, this is the perfect project for using them up.  Thank you to Susan Carlson at the Felted Button for sharing the crochet Trio blanket pattern.
