New Project Spotlight: Crochet Posey Purse

In today’s New Project Spotlight we’re shining the light on the Crochet Posey Purse, designed by Edie Eckman for Yarnspirations.

This purse is such a cutie! The pattern called for a solid yarn for the purse and a variegated yarn for the attached flower. I didn’t do the flower but I incorporated some stripes instead.

The pattern called for 60 rows, plus handle flaps and finishing. For my summer-themed purse I decided to do some fun stripes in aqua, yellow (8 rows), red (6 rows), white (4 rows), and then back to white (4), red (6),  yellow (8), and aqua.

For a second one I made, I did stripes of tan, dark red (4 rows) and cream (2 rows), and dark red (4 rows) back to tan.

What you’ll need (or what I used for this crochet Posey Purse)

  • 4-weight yarn, approximately 364 yards as indicated on the pattern
  • US-K hook (6.5mm, 10.5)
  • Yarn needle
  • Scissors
  • Purse handles

This pattern works up relatively quickly. And it’s an easy follow. Which is probably why I ended up making 3 of them.

You could accessorize or choose unique yarn types for all sorts of different looks. I was into stripes at the time I made these so, voila, stripes!

My Pattern Notes

I will say that if you plan to carry anything of weight in it, you might consider adding a fabric liner. I didn’t do that on any of mine, but the heavier the stuff, the more it tended to stretch and pull the purse. That would be my only suggestion. And I could probably go back even now and add a fabric lining.

I used a circular set of wood purse handles on one of them, and a colored set of wood purse handles on the other two.

I haven’t had any issues with the construction of the purse, even despite some of the stretching that was inevitable….again, seriously consider lining it if you plan to use it in any way like a regular purse.

I thought it would be a cute bag to make to carry small dolls or toys in too. In that case, lining might be the better option so corners and ends don’t snag the yarn.

I would give two-thumbs up for this crochet posey purse pattern. Now, go out and make yourself one and let me know how it goes!

Final Thoughts on the crochet Posey Purse

If you are you looking for an easy project, look no further than the Posey Purse. I could see working it up in any number of yarns and color combinations. Oh, the possibilities!  Thank you to Edie Eckman and Yarnspirations for sharing the crochet Posey Purse pattern!
