New Project Spotlight: 7-Day Sampler Crochet Blanket
Hey, how’s everyone doing? In today’s New Project Spotlight, I have a fun new crochet pattern I came across from The Crochet Crowd called The 7-day Sampler (designed by Jeanne Steinhilber).
The pattern makes a series of blocks that are joined together and surrounded by a border. With some fun colors, and smaller blocks to work with, it makes for a good summertime project.
What You’ll Need
- 6 skeins – Lion Brand Mandala Ombré yarn (344 yds/skein) in the colorway Happy; 4-weight
- 2 skeins – Big Twist yarn (380 yards/skein) in the colorway White 4-weight
- US-J hook
- Scissors
- Yarn needle
- The Crochet Crowd’s 7-Day Sampler crochet blanket pattern
My finished dimensions: 56″ x 48″.
The ‘Happy’ colorway is really, well, such a HAPPY series of colors! Bright and cheery. My squares worked up into approximately 9“ squares.
7-Day Sampler Color Selection
The pattern called for 3 yarn colors, but I wanted to allow the Happy to flow. The pattern gave colors for A, B, and C. For A and C I used Happy. For B I used the white. That’s it! And it cut down just a bit on the tucking of ends…..which, if any of you know me by now, I detest doing. Surprisingly, I must say I was rather proud of myself for tucking as I went on this one! I know, stranger things have happened! LOL
There are 6 different squares that you make multiples of. The premise of the 7-day sampler is to spend each of 7 days assembly-lining the squares. On Day One you do all the squares for Square One. On Day Two you do all the squares for Square Two, and so on. Day Seven is used to join the squares and add the border.
I made 5 of each square for a total of 30 squares.
I didn’t exactly follow this day schedule, so mine might have been more like a 39-day sampler. LOL.
Joining and Border
Once I made the 30 squares, I laid them out and played with that until I got it the way I wanted it. Then I used the joining stitch in the pattern (which was new to me) to join all of the squares. I really liked how this looked and would definitely use it again. From there I used the border called for in the pattern, and then added on another round of single crochet and another round of single crochet/chain 1.
Final Thoughts on crocheting the 7-Day Sampler Crochet Blanket
And voila! How fun is that! I love working with self-striping yarn! If you would like another moderately easy blanket with some color fun, check out this 7-Day Sampler. There are two sizes so you could try out the smaller size if you didn’t want to commit to the larger one. Thank you to Jeanne Steinhilber of The Crochet Crowd for sharing the 7-Day Sampler pattern.
