Crochet Flower Ring {free pattern}

Today’s project is a crochet flower ring to get us ready for spring! These rings can be whipped up in a matter of minutes and in any color of embroidery floss you might have. The brighter the better!

Supplies

supply list
  • 1 shank of 6-strand embroidery floss, only need about 2-3 yards. I’ve also used 1-weight sock yarn and these turn out lovely as well.
  • B1 (2.25MM) crochet hook
  • Scissors
  • Needle
  • Ring base, I used an adjustable base with a plate on top
  • Glue, I used Goop
  • Embellishments, I used a small button

Instructions for Crochet Flower Ring

Finished Dimensions: 1” diameter

Chain 4 and join to beginning chain with slip stitch.

Round 1: Chain 1. Inserting hook into center circle, make 7 single crochets. Join to beginning single crochet with a slip stitch.

Round 2: *(Chain 2, 2 double crochet, slip stitch) into the same stitch. Slip stitch into the next stitch and repeat from * 6 more times. (7 petals)

Fasten off and use the ends to tie it onto a ring base, trim the ends, or use a needle to tuck them.  I’ve tried each and find trimming them is easiest, HOWEVER, make sure you leave enough of a tail that can be glued behind the flower.  Notice the red flower ring I trimmed too short and you can see the frayed edge. Oh well.

Apply glue to plate of ring base. Press wrong side of flower into the glue and hold for a bit. You can add/glue embellishments such as a gemstone or a mini button. Allow everything to dry. I usually have it dry overnight.

Customize flower rings

I’ve wanted to make a ring using a glitzy yarn to match the bracelet I made here. It would dress up a pair of jeans, or could even be worn more formally with a pretty dress.

Also, think of all the school spirit colors you could do! Simply make the ring in one color and add an embellishment in a second color. For blue and gold school colors, you could make the ring in blue and put a gold rhinestone in the center. Or go vice versa…make the ring in gold, and add a blue rhinestone.

One other idea I’ve mentioned before and I’ll mention it here too, is you could customize the embroidery floss by either taking one strand out of different colors of each 6-strand shank and create a new multi-colored shank. Using the team spirit idea, use 3 strands of blue and 3 strands of gold. Or 2 strands of red, 2 strands of black and 2 strands of white.

You could also bulk up on the embroidery floss and create a thicker yarn and/or increase your hook size to create a larger flower to put behind this one for a layered flower effect. I haven’t tried that one yet but it intrigues me.
